The house stood there in all its brilliance
Fresh white paint creating an ethereal glow
The lace curtains blew gently from open windows
The curved roof sloping in an elegant bow
The yellow flowers swayed in the Dandelion field
Whilst emitting an air of serenity
A young boy ran up and down the aisles
Disturbing the delicate unity
The sky overhead was a calm, piercing blue
Seemingly the color of deep sapphire
Clean laundry was hung by the old oak tree
Bright linens suspended by a wire
Just then, the calm was shattered
Broken beyond any hope of repair
The cloudless sky turned grey and dark
The only sound in the silence, a cry of despair
What had caused the curtains to stop blowing?
The dandelion field to stand still?
The boy to stop running?
Nature to lose all its free will?
The shattering of the illusion
Rang loud and clear that day
As simple innocence and beauty
No longer kept reality away.
